1994
She was born to be a star.
British-born Kate Beckinsale's on-screen career began long before we knew her name – back in the '70s.
The actress starred as a baby (then known as Kathrin Beckinsale) in the TV series Couples in 1975.
Beckinsale was one year old when she appeared as an extra on the daytime soap, which her parents Richard Beckinsale and Judy Loe also starred in.
Sadly, Richard died aged just 31 in 1979 from a heart attack when Beckinsale was still a toddler.
Beckinsale inherited the acting bug from her late dad and went on to star in a few TV movies in the 1990s before her starpower really exploded.
Here, she is pictured in the 1994 film Uncovered.
1995
Before being a huge name, Beckinsale embarked on one of the biggest romances of her life.
She met Welsh actor Michael Sheen in 1994 when they were in a touring production of Seagulls.
Their relationship was one of the most well-known among celebrity circles in the UK.
It spanned eight years and during that time, they welcomed a daughter, Lily.

1996
Beckinsale and Sheen frequented red carpets during their early romance.
Though they never married, Beckinsale has always been open about how much the Blood Diamond star meant to her.
"It was only when I met him that my life really fell into place, and then we had Lily, so it's totally changed everything," she told Cinema.com.
"He's protective of the people he loves, so I'm very glad I'm one of those."
2001
In 2001, Beckinsale hit the big time when she starred in the hit Michael Bay-directed film Pearl Harbor.
She played Nurse Lt. Evelyn Johnson alongside Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett in the World War II movie.
The actress had Sheen by her side when the movie reached huge box office success.

Speaking on the Graham Norton Show in 2016, Beckinsale recalls how director Bay wasn't sold on her for the part immediately.
"I don't think I fit the type of actress Michael Bay had met before," Beckinsale said.
"I think he was baffled by me because my boobs weren't bigger than my head and I wasn't blonde.
"I'd just had my daughter and had lost weight. But was told that if I got the part, I'd have to work out. And I just didn't understand why a 1940s nurse would do that."

Sheen accompanied Beckinsale to the film's premiere in 2001.
At the time, their daughter Lily was aged two.
2001
After the major success of Pearl Harbor, Beckinsale began to become a household name in Hollywood.
Over the next few years, she starred in the films Serendipity, Laurel Canyon and Tiptoes.

Beckinsale also became quite the style icon during her rise to fame, often attending Hollywood events in chic outfits and nailing early '00s fashion.
