Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's 2022 wedding was the kind of event most people can only ever dream of

Earlier this morning, news broke that Jennifer Lopez has officially filed for divorce from Ben Affleck after two years of marriage.

But what really drove the nail into the coffin is the date Lopez decided to file - the couple's two year wedding anniversary.

The couple first tied the knot in an intimate Las Vegas ceremony on July 16, 2022, before moving on to a grander celebration on August 20 that same year.

Not much is known about their Las Vegas ceremony. At the time, a source spoke to People describing the wedding as "super, super small."

"[Jennifer's] mom and kids were there. They just wanted to be married so they got married," the source told the publication.

But it was their August 20 ceremony at Affleck's million-dollar lakeside estate - and former plantation - in Georgia that captivated fans around the world.

The 87-acre compound in Riceboro, Georgia on the Hampton Island preserve just outside of Savannah was host to several days of celebration, kicking off with a rehearsal dinner on the Friday night.

Vogue reported that Lopez has a "very specific vision" for what she wanted while Affleck was happy to make the day all about his blushing bride, enlisting Colin Cowie to bring the vision to life.

The rehearsal dinner was elaborately decorated with chandeliers and pink-hued vases filled with pink, cream and white flowers, alongside custom napkins embroidered with "J" and "B."

When it came to the main event, Affleck and Lopez opted for an untraditional theme, asking all their guests to come dressed in white.

Affleck's compound was transformed into the wedding location that most only ever dream of, with elegant tables set up on a riverfront dock, fireworks displays ready to be set off in celebration, a church constructed on the property specifically for the occasion.

The white metal framework was situated in the property's back garden overlooking the river, decorated with delphiniums created in gorgeous archways and lining the aisle.

The guest list was stacked with famous names including Affleck's close friend Matt Damon and his wife Luciana, filmmaker Kevin Smith and wife Jennifer, Clerks actor Jason Mewes and wife Jordan Monsanto, as well as Aussie actress Pia Whitesell.

Lopez wore three custom Ralph Lauren looks for the occasion, with her main showstopping dress created as a unique twist on the Ralph Lauren classic turtleneck column dress.

The gown was made from more than 1000 handkerchiefs and 5000 metres of fabric, cut into ruffles and attached by hand to create an ethereal, romantic piece of art.

The neckline and sleeves featured gorgeous ruffle detailing, with a cathedral-length veil added for a touch of drama.

Affleck also wore Ralph Lauren, sticking with the dress code in a white tuxedo jacket with black trousers and black bowtie.

The reception was held outside with long tables lined with greenery and candles, with fairy lights and greenery hanging from the roof.

Not long after their wedding, Lopez gave her fans a behind-the-scenes look at the ceremony, writing about it in her newsletter at the time On the JLo.

"'This is heaven. Right Here. We're in it now,'" Lopez opened her newsletter.

"That is one of my favorite lines that Ben wrote from a movie he directed called Live By Night. He also said it the night of our wedding reception in his speech, and I thought... how perfect."

The singer explained that it wasn't all picture perfect as the leadup to the event "had all the makings of a doozie of a wedding weekend," however she added that she "never had one doubt" remaining calm ahead of her walk down the aisle.

"At long-last, I started my walk down the stairs that would become the aisle that would lead me toward the rest of my life," she wrote. "Ahhhhh...it was actually happening..."

The couple were originally engaged more than two decades earlier before calling it quits in 2004 and rekindling their romance in 2021.

"For us, this was perfect timing," Lopez wrote in her newsletter.

"Nothing ever felt more right to me, and I knew we were finally 'settling down' in a way you can only do when you understand loss and joy and you are battle tested enough to never take the important things for granted or let the silly insignificant nuisances of the day get in the way of embracing every precious moment."
