Jayne Azzopardi welcomes baby boy

Weekend Today's Jayne Azzopardi has welcomed a baby boy.

Little Joey Lance Edward Butler arrived at 11:31am on Tuesday and mum says "he's perfect".

This is the first child for the 9News presenter and her cinematographer husband Trent Butler.

The new mum has shared a sweet photo of the newborn bub, being cradled in her arms, wrapped in the hospital blanket.

Jayne announced her pregnancy news on Weekend Today in September, excitedly telling her colleagues on-air: "Trent and I are expecting a little boy which is very exciting."

"It's weird talking about it," she confessed. "It's lovely news, we're both very happy."

Opening up about her difficulties falling pregnant, the mum-to-be fought back tears as she assured viewers that she knows what it's like to "[struggle] to conceive."

"I feel compelled to say that it hasn't been easy for us and I know that there will be people watching who are struggling to conceive or have... Oh I'm getting emotional!"

She continued, "Or have experienced loss themselves and I know they'll be happy for me, but I also know that it can be extra painful to hear somebody else announcing happy news so I hope everybody gets their happy announcement, but we are just, we are just delighted."

The couple wed in March 2018 at Glen Albyn Estate in Tasmania, which is also where the pair got engaged in November 2017.

"We had the perfect day," Jayne told 9Honey at the time.

"It was everything we imagined and more. To be surrounded by our family and friends in one of the most beautiful places in the world and become husband and wife – there are just no words for how happy we are!"
