Jared Leto says he was tear-gassed in Italy while caught in an anti-vax protest

Jared Leto says he was tear-gassed after inadvertently becoming caught in the middle of an anti-vaccination protest in Rome, Italy.

In a post via his Instagram account, the 49-year-old Oscar winner shared a series of photos and videos from the Saturday protest, which saw tens of thousands take to the streets in response to a government-imposed requirement that employees obtain a "Green Pass" to enter their workplaces starting this Friday.

"Got caught in a protest in Italy," Leto captioned his post. "From what I gather it was about vaccine mandates / green pass.

"Got teargassed then called it a night."

Leto is understood to be in the Italian capital city with his band, 30 Seconds To Mars.

Italy's "Green Pass" mandate comes into effect on October 15.

The passes certify a person has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, recently recovered from the virus or tested negative within two days.

Leto hasn't revealed his stance on vaccinations, but for what it's worth, he's been spotted wearing masks and face shields throughout the pandemic — including on the set of his upcoming film House of Gucci.

In September, he was the only guest wearing a mask while sitting in the front row at Staud's runway show during New York Fashion Week.

Leto will next be seen in House Of Gucci, as well as Marvel's Morbius, and as Adam Neumann in WeCrashed.
