Unusual arrangement that keeps Holland Taylor and Sarah Paulson’s 32-year age-gap romance alive

Actress Holland Taylor, 83, has revealed why she and partner Sarah Paulson, 51, don’t share a home after 12 years together.
In an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Taylor explained her and Paulson’s living situation after host Drew Barrymore asked, “Is it true that you guys don’t live together?”

“Well, we do as much time as we possibly can because work takes us apart constantly. But I have an apartment here [in New York City], and [Paulson] stays here in my apartment when she’s here,” Taylor said.
Both in-demand actresses, Taylor said that whenever she and Paulson are in the same city they will stay at somebody’s home “together”.
The Two and a Half Men actress explained that when they are in Los Angeles, where they spend much of their time, they do own and live in separate homes.
Taylor clarified that Paulson is currently living with her while she awaits the completion of a new and separate property she has purchased.
“In L.A., I have a separate house from hers, but her new house, she hasn’t moved into,” Taylor explained.
“It’s been almost a year since she’s been staying in my house in L.A., too. So we’re together as much as geography and our jobs let us be.”
The interview concluded with Holland confirming that she and Paulson have been romantically together for 12 years.

The pair first met at a dinner party in 2002 when they were both in other relationships.
In 2015, they reconnected via Twitter (now X) direct messages and began dating later that same year. By the end of the year they went public with their relationship.
This is not the first time the couple has opened up about their home life. During a May 2024 appearance on the SmartLess podcast, hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, Paulson said the “secret” to her relationship with Taylor was living apart.
“Yeah, we don’t live together. That’s the secret to it,” Paulson said of their relationship.
Paulson has previously questioned why same-sex age-gap relationships in Hollywood didn’t receive the same criticism as her and Taylor’s relationship. Instagram

The pair’s 32-year age difference has copped criticism from the public in the past.
Paulson has previously commented about her age-gap romance to Spanish outlet El País.
"For many, our age difference is very disconcerting," she said.
"That’s why I like to represent something so positive and unconventional, because living by predetermined social norms is boring, and why would you follow a path that isn’t yours? So yes, I like to represent something so positive.
“And at the same time, my relationship belongs to me.”

Paulson has previously questioned why heterosexual age-gap couples in Hollywood didn’t receive the same backlash.
“I don’t remember people going nuts about Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, in terms of their age difference,” she told The Guardian in 2020.
