Harry Styles apologies to fans after awkward on-stage blunder

Harry Styles was forced to apologise to fans after a hilarious moment onstage, with the singer forgetting the words to one of his most popular songs during a concert in Amsterdam.

The British pop sensation began strumming the chords to his song Cherry while standing on stage in the Netherlands, before his face visibly dropped into a confused expression.

Styles, 32, then steps away from the mic, turning to his band to ask “what are the words” before turning back to the crowd, trying to start the song again.

When the singer, who’s touring off the back of his new album Kiss All the Time, Disco Occasionally, still couldn’t recall the words, he looked to his loyal fan base to ask them for help.

“What are the words?” he asked the crowd, before adding “What’s the first verse?”

The singer then stepped towards the crowd to try and hear the lyrics; however, the crowd started singing the song from different points, prompting him to approach one fan from the edge of the stage, who eagerly helped him.

He quickly returned to the microphone with his signature cheeky grin and an apology.

“Sorry about that,” he said while chuckling.

The moment was recorded by fans close to the stage, with the video going viral online and fans laughing along with him in the comments.

“He’s so lovely only he would get away with that,” one person wrote.

“He is so funny,” another fan wrote.

“He was like, ‘I have not sung this one in a while help me out here.’”

Cherry is from Style’s second solo album, Fine Line, which came out in 2019, with the star writing the song in 2018.

Styles is in the middle of his world tour, which will bring the singer to Australia in November and December for shows in Melbourne and Sydney.

The Together, Together world tour, which includes six dates in Australia to round out the seven-city global residency in December, was announced in January.

The tour has stirred up some controversy among fans, who raised issues with the stage design, saying it obstructed parts of the show, depending on where you’re sitting.

Styles claimed his creative direction had come from the desire to “be in it” with fans throughout the show.

“I wanted to be as close to as many of you as possible, because that’s what this tour is all about,” he explained to the audience.

“It’s about being together, having fun together, sharing a moment together, dancing together, being with your friends, being with strangers, getting swayed with your friends, getting swayed with strangers.”

“That is how I made this album and that is how I would like you to listen to it tonight. Thank you for being here with us, thank you for coming back to stay with us, it means a lot to us, thank you so much.”

The tour’s official representative also told the BBC the floor concept was designed to “give fans freedom” to move around during the concert.

Following the initial backlash after night one of his Netherlands tour, Styles’ team released a statement assuring future attendees that they would address widespread sight line issues.

“For future venues, we are working as quickly as possible to make adjustments that also fit within safety code and local compliance,” they said.

After his 10-show run in Amsterdam, the newly engaged Watermelon Sugar High singer will head to London, followed by Brazil, Mexico City and New York, before arriving Down Under in November.
