'Game of Thrones' creators reveal the show's ending is hidden in a Spotify playlist

If you can't wait less than two months to learn the ending of Game of Thrones, here's a major clue: the answer is in a Spotify playlist.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the creators and showrunners of the popular HBO series, have helped curate a Spotify playlist called Game of Thrones: The End is Coming.

"Bend the knee and give reverence to this playlist envisioned by Game of Thrones co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss," the description for the playlist reads.

The playlist has 48 songs including 'Seven Nation Army' by The White Stripes, 'Listen to the Lion' by Van Morrison and 'Dire Wolf' by Grateful Dead -- all song titles with strong links to the world of Game of Thrones.

And it's more than just songs to listen to if you're in a Game of Thrones mood.

"The answer to the ending is one hundred percent hidden in the playlist choices," Benioff and Weiss told For the Record, Spotify's newsroom site, in an email. "No one will believe us, but it's true."

Could be in one of the song titles? In a lyric? In a music video that accompanies one of the songs? Maybe it's a combination of song titles?...

Aside from being cryptic and giving fans even more to think about (and possibly go crazy about), Benioff and Weiss say they just wanted a playlist that captured the vibe of the show, which will end with its upcoming eighth season.

"We were looking for songs that made us feel the way the show made us feel," the creators explained. "There's variety in there -- Rage is not Johnny Cash. But they both have a deep inherent power."

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the creators said they knew how the show would end five years ago, and are nervous about the reaction.

"We want people to love it. It matters a lot to us," said Weiss. "We also know that no matter what we do, even if it's the optimal version, that a certain number of people will hate the best of all possible versions."

They also expressed how surprised they were -- pleasantly -- that the ending had not been leaked. (The show has moved beyond the book series, A Song of Fire and Ice, penned by George R.R. Martin.)

"We won't be relieved until the final episode airs without a leak," Benioff told Entertainment Weekly. "We're certainly happy we got through production without a leak. But there have been issues that have happened in post-production, or a week before an episode airs. So we're entering the most dangerous time."

As for what they will be doing when the final episode airs on May 20?

"We'll be in an undisclosed location, turning off our phones and opening various bottles," said Weiss.

"I plan to be very drunk and very far from the internet," added Benioff.
