Fans are freaking out over 1D 'split'

From shock and horror to sheer disbelief, fans of One Direction are understandably experiencing all the stages of grief after the news that their beloved boyband is taking a hiatus.

Deciding not to tour their fifth album, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson are reportedly taking at least a year away from 1D life to focus on solo projects… which has left fans questioning whether or not they'll get back together at all.  

Since the news broke, thousands have taken to social media to share their heartbreak. Check out the video montage, above, for some of the saddest/funniest fan moments.

The global sensations, formed on the X Factor UK in 2010, recently lost an integral member in Zayn Malik.  Perhaps like that time The Spice Girls lost Ginger Spice, it all went downhill from there?

They boys will perform their final show in Sheffield, England on October 31 and take a break from all other 1D-related commitments from March 2016 until further notice. 

Now might be a good time to give a 1D fan a big hug.
