Demi Moore reveals she 'lost 20 pounds' and got shingles while filming new horror film: 'An idea of the intensity'

Demi Moore has revealed the toll her new film The Substance had on her.

The American actress, 61, told the Los Angeles Times that she got shingles and "lost 20 pounds" (9kg approximately) during filming.

"To give you an idea of the intensity, my first week that I actually had off, where it was just Margaret working, I got shingles," Moore told the publication.

"And I then lost, like, 20 pounds," she added.

Moore explained that it's all part of her job, saying: "You have to walk away feeling that you put it all on the table."

Her co-star Margaret Qualley added that she suffered from "crazy acne" while shooting the R-rated horror film.

At a recent press conference in Cannes, Moore spoke about the film and ageism in Hollywood.

"My particular perception is that regardless of what is going on outside of you, the real issue is how you are relating to the issue," she reportedly said.

She added: "I don't hold myself or even the situation as a victim."

She also told Variety about how she gave the director a copy of her book before getting the role.

"I gave her the book as a way of knowing me – my experience with my body, and the value I gave to my body," Moore explained.

"The personal torture I put myself through. All that seemed to connect to her big time. She knew that I really understood who the character was."
