'I'm in two minds': Aussie Outlander star David Berry hints at what's to come in the final season

David Berry is known for playing the dashing and fiercely loyal Lord John Grey in hit TV series Outlander – but Aussie viewers might not realise he's one of us

The Canadian-born Australian actor, 41, first appeared on the series back in 2017.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the show's eighth and final season, as the cast hand over the reins to the actors of the new spin-off Outlander: Blood of My Blood, set before Outlander's events and based on Jamie and Claire's parents, respectively.

Speaking with 9honey Celebrity, Berry reflected on Outlander wrapping up and his time working with castmates Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe.

"They're lovely, they've been the heartbeat of the Outlander show," he says.

"A lot of the success of the show has come down to their chemistry and [how] they portrayed the epic love story of Jamie and Claire.

"I love working with both of them, they are both fantastic people and both incredible actors."

He says he's "said goodbye" to his character, Lord John Grey, but hinted at an incredible final season of the show, which wrapped filming last year.

"I have said goodbye, the series has come to an end we finished filming it a year ago," he says.

"I am in two minds about it, I'm sad to see that he will go, but I'm also excited for what audiences will see in season eight."

Berry, who is also known for his work in shows including A Place To Call Home, has lent his vocals to an Audible Original audio book called Mending Hearts by Adeline Knight.

In the book, a love story between a pair's ancestors is disovered. Berry has previously worked on the audiobook Wild Hearts, also by Knight.

It also is about a great romance story, something Berry's used to thanks to Outlander.

"It's a romance book. If you're a fan of Outlander and romance fiction, you will definitely love this book," he says.

"It's sparking the imagination through the ear.

"It's just my voice to express all the emotion in storytelling. It's a really interesting challenge."

Berry worked on the audio book with the likes of actors Sophie Lowe and Remy Hii, who he said help make up a "fantastic cast".

The actor appreciates the art of storytelling and tells 9honey he was "excited" to work on the project.

"I love audio books and I listen to either an audio book or the radio or podcasts all the time. I always have something playing in the background, whether doing chores around the house, travelling somewhere or going to sleep," he says.

"They're something I love to share, my son enjoys them as well. Storytelling and reading stories out loud to him is something that I particularly love.

"It meant a lot to me growing up as well, my parents read stories to me and I feel like I'm just tapping into something I've loved since being a child and I think we all love having stories told to us."
