Christina Applegate reveals she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed: 'It's a relief'
Christina Applegate has opened up about her decision to have her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed in order to reduce her cancer risk.
In an interview with Today.com, the 45-year-old Bad Moms star said she underwent surgery two weeks ago.
"I had my ovaries and [fallopian] tubes removed," the mother-of-one revealed. "My cousin passed away from ovarian cancer in 2008. I could prevent that. That’s how I’ve taken control of everything."
She continued, "It’s a relief. That’s one other thing off the table. Now, let’s hope I don’t get hit by a bus."
In 2008, the actress was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy, which prompted her to completely overhaul her diet and lifestyle.
"The first thing is to be really diligent about what you’re putting into your body, as far as what kind of food you’re eating," she said, adding that her and husband Martyn LeNoble grow their own vegetables at home.
Christina -- who has the BRCA1 gene mutation, which predisposes her to developing cancer -- also revealed her concern that her six-year-old daughter Sadie could have it as well.
"The chances that my daughter is BRCA positive are very high," she said. "I look at her and feed her the cleanest foods. I try to keep her stress levels down. I’m doing everything I can on my end knowing that in 20 years, she’ll have to start getting tested."
She added: "Hopefully by then there will be advancements. It breaks my heart to think that’s a possibility."
