'A lot of struggling': Carmen Electra reveals she was once homeless in Los Angeles

Carmen Electra has spoken candidly about the time she was once homeless in Los Angeles in the early days of her career.

The '90s star, known for Baywatch and the MTV reality show 'Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen and Dave, said there was a lot of ''struggling" as she tried to crack the big time in Hollywood.

"I was homeless in LA, I'm not from a rich family or anything like that," Electra, 52, said at the 90s Con Florida, which was moderated by a People editor.

"So there was a lot of struggling, and I didn't really know what I was going to do.

"But I just started to try things and come out of my shell really. So that's the beginning."

Electra, who was born Tara Leigh Patrick, was a professional and trained dancer and found auditioning for acting roles difficult before being discovered by late music icon Prince.

She called Prince "so supportive".

Electra soon found stardom as a bombshell in the nineties, released a studio album and soon landed a role on the iconic show Baywatch, appearing on the hit show as Lani McKenzie.

She also appeared in Playboy a number of times. She is also known for parody films including Scary Movie.

Electra recently reflected on her time on Baywatch, and said she was told to lose weight while on the show.

Speaking to Extra recently, she said: "When I look back, I love my body and I love that I was curvy and not, like, straight up and down."

"Those times have changed. You can't do that anymore."
