Man About the House star Brian Murphy dies aged 92 as wife pays emotional tribute to him

English actor Brian Murphy, best known for Man About the House and its spinoff series George and Mildred has died. He was 92.

The star's agent Thomas Bowington confirmed he died on Sunday at his home in Kent.

His wife Linda Regan, an actress known for the sitcom Hi-de-Hi!, was by his side.

"It is with the greatest of sadness that we have to announce the death of our client actor Brian Murphy," Bowington said in a statement per Deadline.

"It is almost impossible to describe the depth of his talent and humanity. A truly joyful and profoundly good hearted man."

Murphy started out acting in theatre and television roles in the '60s before being cast in the sitcom, Man About the House, in 1973.

He rose to fame for his role as George Roper on the series, which ran for six seasons and starred the likes of Richard O'Sullivan, Paula Wilcox and Sally Thomsett.

Murphy continued playing his character on the spinoff series, George and Mildred.

George and Mildred aired in 1976 and ran for five seasons.

After the series wrapped, Murphy continued working on sitcoms in the '80a, starring in The Incredible Mr. Tanner and L for Lester.

Across his decades long career he also appeared in the series Last of the Summer Wine, Wizadora and Benidorm.

He was in films including The Booze Cruise, Sparrows Can't Sing and The Boy Friend.

Tributes for the late comedy star have already begun flooding in.

Murphy's wife of 30 years was among the first to remember the actor in an emotional social media message.

"My love for you will never die. RIP sweetheart," she wrote to X (formerly Twitter) alongside a photo of them kissing.

"I will love you forever darling, and all your wishes will be carried out as you wanted. My soulmate," she continued in a follow-up tweet.

"I know we will meet again, until then I'll hold on to the love we shared for 35 years."

'Allo 'Allo! star Vicki Michelle MBE said she was "So So Sad" to hear of Murphy's death.

"Great actor and Gorgeous friend, always fun. My heart goes out to Linda and family. Such a Wonderful couple."

Hi-de-Hi! actor Jeffrey Holland said Murphy was a "wonderful actor".

"Fond memories of appearing with him in Ray Cooney's Run For Your Wife in London's West End and Vancouver."
