Bosch star George Gerdes dies on New Year's Day after suffering from brain aneurysm

Actor and singer-songwriter George Gerdes has sadly died at the age of 72.

The industry veteran's partner, Judy Johns confirmed the news to The Hollywood Reporter, revealing that Gerdes passed away on New Year's Day at a hospital in Glendale, California, one day after suffering a brain aneurysm. 

Gerdes appeared in a string of shows in his decades-long career, including Miami Vice, Seinfeld, Grey's Anatomy, True Blood and, most recently, Bosch. He also had stints on feature films such as A Few Good Men, Single White Female and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. In the early '70s, Gerdes also recorded two folk/pop albums titled Obituary and Son of Obituary.

"George Gerdes has departed. An actors actor and deeply kind man. Rest easy brother, we are fewer…" tweeted his Bosch co-star Titus Welliver.

Actor Michael McKean also paid tribute to his colleague on Twitter.

"My dear old friend George Gerdes passed away last night," McKean tweeted. "He was a wonderful songwriter, poet, and actor, much beloved by everyone who knew him. You would have liked him, too. RIP, GG, from the old red lobster."

Gerdes is survived by his partner Johns and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a memorial for the star will be scheduled for a later time.
