'Please don't wish danger on us': Ariana Grande's bizarre plea to fans after being forced to miss Wicked: For Good premiere in Brazil

Ariana Grande has issued a statement sharing her "devastation" after missing the Brazilian premiere of her new film, Wicked: For Good.

The American singer and actress, 32, was forced to miss the premiere on November 4 for reasons beyond her control.

But Grande, who portrays the character Glinda in the film franchise opposite Cynthia Erivo, raised eyebrows with a message that has since been deleted, in which she reportedly pleaded with fans: "Please don't wish danger on us."

"No matter how upset or disappointed you are, please please do not wish danger on us or assume that we didn't try," she said.

"I hope it's a beautiful and safe night. I love Brazil, I always have, I always will."

She also shared a lengthy statement to her Instagram Stories, explaining what actually happened.

"Brazil, I can't believe this is happening and I am beyond devastated to be sending this message," she began.

"A few hours ago, my team and I had to deplane our flight, as they had to do maintenance on the plane due to a safety issue and it will not be taking off until 11am tomorrow, which means that I would not be making it in time for the Wicked: For Good São Paulo premiere."

She said her and her team tried desperately to get a flight to make the premiere, including looking at private jet options.

"My team and Universal have tried every single thing possible to fix this, we've searched every other flight, overnight, early morning, connecting flights, commercial and also private options and absolutely nothing was available or possible that would get us there in time."

She added in part of her post before apologising: "I'm so heartbroken that I'm unable to be there with you all... and again, I am so, so very sorry."

Grande also told her co-stars, including Erivo and Jonathan Bailey, and fans, "I am with you in spirit... I love you so much."

Wicked: For Good is the newest film in the film franchise and is out in Australian cinemas November 20.

Ethan Slater, who Grande has been reportedly dating, gushed about her and the cast at the Australian premiere of Wicked last year to nine.com.au.

"I do think the theatre kid in all of us was a really helpful bonding thing," he said.

Slater, who stars as the Munchkin Boq in the film, said: "Cynthia, Ariana, you know, Marissa [Bode] loves doing theatre. Johnny [Jonathan Bailey] obviously does theatre. Jeff [Goldblum] loves it. Everybody is, like, you know, theatre kids at heart."

"So I think we bonded over time, which is really nice.

"I think the best part about it is that not only was everyone really kind and warm and welcoming, everybody's incredibly talented and so you feel really safe doing scenes with everyone."
