Unlikely star comes to Ariana grande’s defence on social media

Popstar Ariana Grande has had an unlikely ally come to her defence amid her decision to take a break from the spotlight.

Grande has been subject to public scrutiny as fans grow concerned about her health, but controversial TV personality Piers Morgan has spoken out in her defence.

While Morgan and Grande aren’t known to be close, he admitted he had only briefly met her once, but held her in high regard following the interaction.

“I’ve no idea what’s going on with @arianagrande, but I do know, after spending a random evening with her in a Beverly Hills restaurant a few years ago, that she’s a genuinely great person: intelligent, funny, engaging, and of course, supremely talented,” Morgan wrote in an unexpected post on Instagram.

“Fame at her pop superstar level can be a very difficult and lonely place.

“So, I urge all the trolls currently making her life a misery with this constant chuntering about her appearance to back off and give her the space she needs to sort herself out.”

As concern for Grande’s health has become a common topic of conversation on social media, it was announced that the star would be stepping back from the spotlight when her Eternal Sunshine tour wraps up in London on September 1, and that she would also be cancelling her upcoming West End debut.

Following the announcement, Grande addressed fans at her show explaining that it was not a “reactive” or “impulsive” decision in response to the concerns around her health.

“It’s a decision that was made from a thoughtful and empowered place. And I want you to know many things can be true at the same time,” she explained.

“I want to share this because I heard that my fans were worried that negativity was ruining things for me, but I just have to say that could not be more the f--k opposite.

“Honestly, this is not what that is. And I just want to be very, very clear: Multiple things can be true at the same time. Yes, boundaries, they need to be set. Human beings can need a break sometimes. And also, this can be and will continue to be the greatest experience of my professional and creative life.”
