Anna Faris addresses Charlie Sheen’s notable absence from Scary Movie reunion

Exclusive: Anna Faris has reunited with self-proclaimed “comedy Avengers”, brothers Marlon and Shawn Wayans, for the first time in almost 20 years for Scary Movie 6.
The trio sits down with nine.com.au to reveal why this year was the right time for a sixth release and addressed one notable absence from the reboot – co-star Charlie Sheen.

Sheen, 60, who appeared alongside Faris, 49, in the third and fourth films of the spoof comedy series in the early noughties, only recently revealed the depths of his battle with addiction around that time.
While Faris admits she hasn’t been in touch with her former co-star since his candid revelations, she remembers their time on set fondly and tells nine.com.au, “I loved working with him”.
“He was brilliant ... Charlie Sheen, Leslie Nielsen, there is an interesting art to that kind of dry [humour],” she says in London.
“I think you guys [brothers Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans] used to talk about not winking at the audience, playing a character sincerely as though the stakes are high.
“And both of those guys, Charlie, especially, was masterful at it.”

Sheen, now 60, admitted in a 2025 memoir and docuseries that he tried to hide his substance abuse on the set of his sitcom Two and a Half Men in the mid-to-early 2000s.
This was around the same time he worked on Scary Movie 3 (2003) and Scary Movie 4 (2006) with Faris.

With five Scary Movies now under her belt, Faris is familiar with the process but this time being a part of another film in the spoof comedy franchise had an extra layer for Faris, who became a mum in the time between her last outing in Scary Movie 4.
Her 14-year-old son Jack Pratt, whom she shares with ex-husband Chris Pratt, was on set for this one, making it one of the reasons the actress was “so thrilled” to be back.
“It feels like something incredibly special for me because, well, for so many reasons,” Faris tells nine.com.au in London.
“I had spent 26 years with people telling me how much they love the movie, they saw it with their dad ... it’s the communal event of group laughter, and I got to be a part of that, and I get to continue it.”

The Wayans brothers, also including Craig Wayans and Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2 director Keenen Wayans, all wrote the script together for the new edition of the franchise and served as producers.
Their sister Kim Wayans makes an appearance in the movie as well as next generations from the family, including Gregg Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr.
The Wayans brothers worked on the original spoof comedy and the sequel before parting ways with the franchise for movies 3, 4 and 5 after creative differences with Miramax, the Hollywood studio owned by Harvey Weinstein at the time.
So what made now, in 2026, the right time to return back to the franchise?
“Looking at the world, it felt like it was time for the comedy Avengers to unite and bring some laughter,” Marlon Wayans tells nine.com.au.

“Everybody needs to laugh and it just felt like it was the perfect time to make people laugh again.
“I kind of missed that nostalgic feeling, I miss working with my brothers, I miss working with my friends. It was good to bring this all together and send up the world and do a comedy that hasn’t been out there for 20 years.”

Faris adds that the experience was “awesome”, “electric” and “felt like a pinnacle”.

“When these guys called, I didn’t think there was a world where I’d be making a Scary Movie with them again,” she says.
“I just didn’t, and that thought made me really sad.”
The comedy star joked her initial thought was actually “I hope they’re gonna pay me enough” before comparing it to her high school reunion.
“I went to my high school reunion. It was a solid B+ of a night but my expectations were low. And so coming into this, my expectations were really high, and I had the best time.”
Scary Movie 6 is out now in cinemas across Australia.
