Scary Movie 6 is perhaps one of the most highly anticipated sequels of the year, with the original cast reuniting for another round of laughs, 26 years since the first film premiered.

So when Richard Wilkins was given the assignment of interviewing Anna Faris and her co-stars, he knew this was an important task that had to run as smoothly as possible.

However, the Nine entertainment editor ran into a couple of hurdles during the interview, yet managed to remain the ultimate professional.

Marlon Wayans, Anna Faris and Shawn Wayans chat with Dickie about Scary Movie 6. Today

“As you know, showbiz never sleeps and sometimes we have to record our celebrity chats ahead of time and at all hours of the day and night,” Dickie said.

“The other week I was in New Zealand with Split Endz and I was on my way back to my hotel room to chat with Anna Faris and the Wayans brothers about Scary Movie 6.

“Then I got a call that my time had been brought forward and I needed to jump on a Zoom with them immediately… either that, or miss the slot completely.”

So on an extremely windy Wellington day, battling the elements and patchy reception, Dickie was put to the test with the celebrity chat.

Although he faced multiple pauses with the video glitching - Dickie did get a good response when he asked about the more risqué humour the Scary Movie franchise is known for and how a new film will fare in a world so heavy with cancel culture.

“It’s time to laugh again, get your boys and girls together and get your big bucket of popcorn and come and laugh at a new Scary Movie… coming to a cinema near you,” Shawn Wayans said.

“We just need to kick these little kids in the gonads, these teenagers who have so much opinion and they are so negative with their cancel culture… we need to cancel the culture they are in and embrace creating a culture similar to the ’80s and ‘90s and early ’00s,” Marlon Wayans said.

“I think social media in this decade has hurt the kids and I want them to get back out there and enjoy culture.”

Scary Movie 6 is in cinemas this Thursday and you can watch Dickie’s full interview with the stars in the video above.
