A 'frustrated' Amber Heard reportedly fires PR Team ahead of testifying in Johnny Depp defamation trial

Amber Heard has reportedly sacked her public relations team just days before testifying in ex-husband Johnny Depp's defamation case against her.

According to the New York Post, the 36-year-old actress cut ties with her crisis PR firm, Precision Strategies, last week, with the outlet claiming Heard was increasingly "frustrated" with the negative press she's received since she and Depp went to trial last month.

"She doesn't like bad headlines," a source told the outlet, with another insider adding Heard is "frustrated with her story not being told effectively".

It's reported that the Aquaman actress – who is expected to take the stand in Virginia as early as Wednesday – now has PR veteran David Shane and his firm, Shane Communications, on retainer. It's claimed Heard enlisted their services in an attempt to effectively tell her side of the story in the court of public opinion. 

The outlet notes that Heard's new PR firm has worked against Depp before – they represented Depp's previous business managers, The Management Group, back in 2017 when the actor sued them for US$25 million (approx. $35 million).

In the filing, Depp sued The Management Group for fraud, accusing them of spending his millions without his permission, but they counter-sued claiming Depp was responsible for his own finances. The lawsuit was settled in 2018 and the terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

Heard's PR switch up comes in the middle of the former couple's very high-profile trial. 

Depp has filed a US$50 million (approx. $70 million) defamation case against the actress over a 2018 op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post about domestic abuse. Heard did not mention Depp by name in her essay, but the actor argues it was obvious she was writing about him. The trial continues.
