Alan Ritchson’s raw confession days after divorce announcement: ‘Unworthy of love’

Alan Ritchson has shared an emotional message about feeling unworthy of love a week after going public with his divorce from wife Catherine Ritchson.

The Reacher star, 43, posted a raw video on Instagram where he confessed he often felt like he was “not enough” as a young man.

He revealed that he often got attention without trying in his youth, but claimed his mother was always in his ear putting him down.

“She’d whisper, ‘It’s not all about you, you know,’ this reduction of myself when I wasn’t even trying to get attention,” Ritchson said.

“You hear that enough times, and you start to feel like I’m not only not worthy of love, but I’m not supposed to be loved. And you carry that into adulthood.

“I’m sure we all have our own versions of that, whatever that might look like, but what does it look like when we don’t love ourselves?”

“We’re we’re constantly escaping into some other thing that ultimately reduces us into a lower vibrational state of ourselves, a lower form of who we’re truly meant to be, and one of the nastier consequences is that if we feel like, ‘I’m not worthy of love,’” he continued.

Ritchson mused that the world is constantly bombarding people with messages about how they’re not enough, so many people turn to material things and outside influences to try to make them feel better.

The result is that some people start to believe that the people around them are below them and are therefore unworthy of love as well, he claimed.

“And suddenly, we’re in the camp of making monsters of others, and we have enemies, and we work against them [...] and then we certainly have a reason to feel like we’re not worthy of love, right?” Ritchson said.

He concluded his video with an uplifting message to his 6.4 million Instagram followers that they are enough, and they’re worthy of love.

“You’re enough. No matter what you’re going through, you’re enough, and we don’t hear that enough,” he said, before espousing his religious beliefs.

Ritchson captioned the post with a Bible quote from Romans 8.

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities nor powers, neither things present nor things to come, neither height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord,” it read.

His emotional post comes less than two weeks after he and wife Catherine announced they were parting ways after 20 years together.

Ritchson first filed for divorce in September 2025, claiming that he and Catherine were “unable to live together successfully as husband and wife.”

The pair then filed a document to “suspend” divorce proceedings in March as they were working to get back together, but it didn’t work out.

The couple share three sons, Calem, 13, Edan, 12, and Amory, 10.
