Adele breaks down over divorce from Simon Konecki in James Corden's last-ever Carpool Karaoke

Carpool Karaoke is going out with a bang.

For the last-ever instalment of his popular segment on The Late Late Show With James Corden, the talk show host invited his pal Adele into the car, who shed some tears and even spoke about her divorce.

As the pair drove around Los Angeles, Adele opened up to her longtime friend about her divorce from ex-husband Simon Konecki in 2019.

The Rolling in the Deep singer became teary-eyed when she recounted how Corden and his wife Julia Carey supported her and son Angelo following the divorce.

"It was, like, the first year that I felt like I had to hold myself accountable for just being an adult," she explained, "whereas the year before, I left Simon and stuff like that.

"But you and Jules and the kids were so integral in looking after me and Angelo and I remember you used to do it with humour as well. You'd be like, 'Good luck with that one,' with anything I was pursuing.

"You were always like an adult to me – you and Julia – and you'd always give me advice."

The segment began with the singer surprising Corden at his home in Los Angeles, waking him up by clashing a pair of cymbals over his bed.

The talk show host then eventually agreed to let her drive him to work, though she admitted, "I'm actually not a brilliant driver.'"

Along the way, the two discussed their friendship and even shed a few tears over Corden's decision to return to the UK.

"It's been a crazy eight years," he says.

"In one sense it feels like it's gone like that, and in another I feel like I don't remember what life was like before being here."

Adele replied, "I've never lived in LA without you guys so I'm a bit nervous about it, to be honest with you, and very, very sad."

Corden announced he would be stepping back from his hosting gig at The Late Late Show earlier this year and would be returning to his home country.

As well as this, Corden shed his own tears over his friendship with the singer.

"It's blown my mind you've done this for me," he told her.

"I love you and we have had the best times here. Our friendship and our families' friendship, it has nothing to do with distance."

Adele was the first celebrity to agree to do Corden's Carpool Karaoke segment back in 2016.

At the time, Corden was a relatively unknown figure in the US when he took over The Late Late Show in 2015, replacing Scottish-American comedian Craig Ferguson.

Carpool Karaoke became the breakout segment of Corden's entire show, with Adele's first appearance amassing a whopping 260 million views on YouTube to date.
