Couple transform abandoned beach house into million dollar luxury home on Beachfront Bargain Hunt: Renovation
It's the ultimate coastal dream – a beach front home without the hefty price tag.
For parents Sarah and Justin that dream was possible. All they needed was a rundown house with luxurious potential.

In an episode of Beachfront Bargain Hunt: Renovation – which you can watch for free for 9Now – Sarah and Justin found a "hidden treasure" and transformed the abandoned beach house into their forever family home.

"We're looking for a fixer upper because we can't afford a house that's already fixed," said Justin while on the hunt for the perfect project.
As parents of two young children, they were looking for a house with four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a waterfront view.

"It's in a state of disrepair right now," said Justin as he took in the wrap around porch and large backyard.
The exterior of the home needed an entire rework, but it was nothing compared to what they found inside.

Exposed plumbing, knocked down walls, a once working kitchen "from the 1970s" and the stench of cigarettes, stains and animals.
"It smells terrible," said Justin as he walked up the stairs.
"This house is scary," admitted Sarah.

"It's a nice house, I'm just concerned with the amount of money it's going to take to bring it back to a livable condition," Justin pointed out.
The couple purchased the house for US$270,000 (about AUD$424,129) and had a renovation budget of US$180,000 (AUD$282,753).
So, they took the plunge and dived into the biggest renovation of their lives.

Working long hours, on top of their normal job hours, the "blood, sweat and tears" seemed to have paid off for the couple.
Not only do they have a stunning new home, their real estate agent estimated the restored home's value to now be US$600,000-$700-000 (up to AUD$1,099,595) – what a profit!

"By putting in all the time, the amount of equity that we gain is amazing," said Justin.

"Fortunately, I don't think anyone will be seeing this on the market soon. It's our forever home."
