How to get your kids to try nutritious foods: Dr Justin Coulson shares his three hacks on Parental Guidance 2023
During Episode 5 of Parental Guidance, the families were faced with a task that would test their kids' attitude to trying new and nutritious foods.
From chocolate bribery to a bit of gentle pushing, the challenge saw the parents use every trick in the book to try and coax their little ones into sampling a range of different foods, and the responses were varied to say the least.

Following the task, Dr Justin Coulson offered some helpful hacks to get your kids to eat veggies just about every single time.

But for Slow style parents Chris and Phillippa – who works in nutrition – the task was a walk in the park.
"This just looks like our kids' regular lunchbox," Philippa said of the selection of superfoods on offer.
And the proof was in the pudding when their children didn't flinch at the thought of trying mushroom, capsicum or salmon.

Now that they're older the kids were open to trying just about anything but mum Phillippa admitted to a touch of trickery in the years gone by.
"I totally tricked you guys when you were babies that capsicum strips were lollies and you've liked them ever since," she laughed.

Not everyone's time was as breezy, with Unstructured parents Melody and Michael admitting they never forced their kids to try anything they didn't want to.
Their child Miller was more than confident to give a few different foods a crack, but the taste of raw mushroom was enough to tip things over the edge and Miller ended up vomitting them straight back up.

So when it comes to the age old question of how to get your kids to eat more vegetables, parenting expert Dr Justin Coulson revealed three very useful hacks.
"First if possible, get them in the garden to grow their own food," he began.

"Second, if you can involve them in the kitchen while you're preparing food, that will help!
"And third, always make sure you've got healthy snacks on hand."
He reinforced that that way "it will be much easier for kids to make a healthy choice".
