Body found in a wheelie bin in a dam east of Perth identified

Western Australia police have identified a 51-year-old man whose body was found in a wheelie bin in a dam east of Perth.

The Homicide Squad is investigating after the body of Dinh Lam Nguyen was found in Glenbrook Dam in John Forrest National Park yesterday afternoon.

Mr Nguyen, who was a father and had family in Perth, was reported as a missing person on Friday by a housemate.

He was last seen about 5pm last Wednesday.

Acting Detective Inspector Sean Wright said investigations into the circumstances surrounding Mr Nguyen's death are ongoing.

"We are still investigating the bin itself, and the items that we have seized from the bin they are being forensically tested at the moment," Mr Wright said.

"And also, we are awaiting the result of a post-mortem examination which will assist us in determining his cause of death."

Asked whether Mr Nguyen was known to police, Mr Wright said he was but declined to provide further details.

"I'm not going into the reasons why. The most important thing now is that he's a victim of crime," he said.

Police said members of the public discovered the remains when they noticed a bad smell coming from the bin.

Inside the bin they discovered a large object wrapped in pink plastic and upon closer inspection noticed a human body part. They then called police.

Divers from WA Police were sent into the dam immediately to pull the bin from the water and scour the water for any further evidence.
