Two teenagers charged after allegedly breaking into zoo, hitting croc with a pole

Two teenage boys are set to face court today after allegedly breaking into Perth Zoo and striking a crocodile with a metal pole.

The two boys, aged 16 and 17-years-old, allegedly gained access to the zoo at about 7.15 on Sunday night, though it is not known how they got inside.

They allegedly cut locks to a crocodile enclosure, before entering and hitting a crocodile with a metal pole.

It is not known if the crocodile was injured during the alleged attack.

The boys were caught on security cameras, which were then allegedly damaged when they were removed from the wall by the pair.

They left the enclosure and the zoo, with the matter subsequently being referred to police.

After investigations, police went to two homes where the pair were arrested.

They have been charged with two counts of criminal damage or destruction of property, one count of trespassing, and one count of animal cruelty.

They were refused bail to appear before Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
