Fisherman pulls dog with a hammer and chains around its neck from WA waterway

The RSPCA is investigating the death of a dog found tied to a hammer and chain around its neck in a waterway south of Perth.  

Local man Chad Woods discovered the dog’s body while fishing off the jetty of Wonnerup Floodgates, WA Today reported.

Mr Woods said he was "looking for mullet" when he noticed the canine floating "out probably three metres in the water".

"Because it was pretty clear, I could see the big hammer that it was tied to," he said.

"It was gross and cruel… whoever did it should be punished".

Mr Woods reported the find to the RSPCA and local rangers, and posted on social media.

RSPCA Chief Inspector Amanda Swift called the grisly discovery "horrific".

"We are dealing with yet another case of horrific animal cruelty," Ms Swift said.

"We urge anyone with information relating to this incident to please come forward," she said.
