Australian city shivers through coldest morning in nine years

Perth and surrounding areas shivered through the coldest morning in nearly a decade this week after a sudden change in weather conditions.
Monday brought storms and heavy showers to much of Western Australia, with 16mm of rain falling on the state’s capital.

By late that day, the unsettled weather had given way to clearer skies and lighter winds, causing overnight temperatures to plummet.
Perth recorded a minimum temperature of 2.5 degrees, the city’s lowest for August in nine years, Weatherzone reports.
Residents in surrounding areas also shivered through Tuesday morning.
In the coastal city of Bunbury, about 174km south of Perth, the mercury struggled to reach 0.8 degrees, its coldest morning in five years and coldest for August in a decade.
Mandurah, just 70km south of Perth, recorded a minimum temperature of 5.4 degrees, the city’s lowest for August in 10 years.
But they were outdone by the inland town of York, in the Central Wheatbelt district, 100km east of Perth.
The mercury refused to budge above a bone-chilling -1 degrees, making it the coldest place in Western Australia early on Tuesday.
The good news for residents is from Wednesday, minimum temperatures will begin climbing as the cold front heads towards South Australia.
Calmer and drier conditions powered by a large high-pressure ridge will return to WA over coming hours.
Perth’s minimum temperature is forecast to reach about 6 degrees on Thursday morning, before hitting double figures by the weekend.
