Motorcyclist, 19, killed by 'stolen BMW' as police hunt for teenage driver

A 19-year-old motorcyclist died after being hit in Melbourne by an allegedly stolen BMW with two teens inside.

A 16-year-old passenger was arrested and later released, with officers hunting for the teen driver. Both allegedly fled the scene.

Davide Pollina from Wollert in Melbourne's north was killed in the crash at Preston in the city's north-east.

Just before midnight on Saturday, thieves allegedly hit a house party in Pascoe Vale South.

They reversed the family's Mazda at speed onto the wrong side of Coonans Road, followed quickly by a white BMW.

That car could be seen pausing to pick up a hooded man before speeding in the opposite direction.

Police claimed it dangerously overtook other drivers on its way toward Bell Street, where an hour later that same BMW would collide with and kill Pollina.

"RIP Davide, my life," wrote one relative from Italy.

He's the third Victorian this year allegedly killed by the actions of child criminals.

Premier Jacinta Allan said she couldn't comment on the cause but expressed"my deepest deepest sympathy".

A 16-year-old was arrested not far from the intersection of Bell and Victoria Streets in Preston.

He was interviewed and released without charge over the death or the damage caused by the BMW when it blasted through a garage door.

Police are still searching for the driver.
