Factory fire in Melbourne ‘forced crews to retreat’

Police have arrested two teenagers as they continue to investigate a factory fire in Melbourne’s north, which destroyed a small business.
The fire, which began at about 3am at the site of a cleaning business on Flight Drive in Tullamarine on Monday, burned with such intensity that firefighters initially had to retreat from the building for their own safety.

Up to 30 firefighters were involved in bringing the blaze under control.
“We had crews perform an aggressive internal attack immediately, however the fire escalated, and we then had to retreat our crews, call in extra appliances, in particular aerial appliances,” Fire and Rescue Victoria’s Brendan Lee told Today.
The fire was brought under control by about 4.30am, but the building inside was destroyed.
The sign on the front of the business had been melted off, the walls had warped inside, and the windows had exploded.
Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring businesses.
The fire was deemed suspicious, with police being called to the scene.
Police later spotted a vehicle of interest travelling at speed in Meadow Heights.

It was later dumped in nearby Roxburgh Park by the people inside after they noticed they were being followed by police.
After fleeing, two people, a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old were arrested.
They are now being interviewed by police, but no charges have been laid.
