Today host Sarah Abo will leave the show early to go on maternity leave on medical advice.
This morning, the expectant mum confirmed she has been suffering some health complications with her pregnancy.
Sarah Abo shared a social media post she is now on maternity leave due to high blood pressure during her pregnancy. @sarahabo
“Copped a bit of a curveball last week with high blood pressure and have been in and out of hospital since,” Abo posted to social media.
“Thankfully I’m in the safe hands of magnificent doctors, nurses and midwives taking incredibly good care of bub and me and we are both well.”
Abo has been ordered to bed rest while the remainder of her pregnancy is monitored.
“Which means I won’t make it back to Today to say goodbye to all you wonderful people before so abruptly heading off on maternity leave... I’m sorry,” Abo wrote.
The mum-to-be has been inundated with well-wishes from show fans and she thanked them for their support.
“We are all eagerly awaiting your happy news, Sarah, I hope you’re watching at home, because we just want you to know how much we love you and nothing is more important right now than what you’re doing... resting, staying safe, taking care, taking it easy, and putting your health and baby’s health first,” Sylvia Jeffreys said on the show this morning.
In March, Sarah confirmed the joyous news she and husband, Cyrus, were pregnant with a little boy.
The 40-year-old also revealed the struggle she and Cyrus had gone through to get to this stage, confirming the pair experienced two miscarriages last year.
“I know it’s obviously very happy news, but it hasn’t been the easiest journey to get here, which I know a lot of our beautiful viewers out there have been through this and are feeling this right now, because it’s not as easy as some might think pregnancy is,” Sarah said at the time.
“I think that’s also why I’ve been so cautious about sharing this news, which obviously I’m so thrilled to be sharing with you all, but I’m still terrified.”
This morning, Sarah’s co-hosts shared their elation at how close she is to meeting her precious little boy.
“I wish we could have had a proper, you know, maternity leave, baby shower, send off for Sarah, with the cake and the flowers and the Today onesie, even though she would have hated that fuss, probably,” Jayne Azzopardi said.
“But, you know, she hasn’t had the easiest pregnancy, I wish it had been different for her because she deserves that, but I said to her, hopefully having a bit of a rough pregnancy means she’s going to have a dream baby and I can’t wait to meet him because she’s going to be the best mum.”
We’d love to hear from you
