Robert Irwin addresses 007 rumours: ‘If I do end up as Bond’

Robert Irwin is quickly cementing himself as one of the most in-demand stars on the planet.

And now, the Wildlife Warrior is set to make history as the youngest person to ever host theTV Week Logie Awards, aged just 22.

But even with his flat-out work schedule after winning US Dancing With The Stars last year, Robert is excited to take on his latest challenge on TV’s night of nights come August 16.

“I grew up, as every Aussie does, watching the Logies and my dad had a lot to do with the Logies, he had a couple of viral moments with a venomous snake, so I think it’s only fair mate, I am really, really excited,” he told Today in his only breakfast TV interview this morning.

“And I want to bring a little bit of that passion and Irwin energy to the Logies.”

And while the conservationist is keeping everything tightly under wraps on what to expect from his hosting gig, he did share there might be some surprise guests from Australia Zoo joining him on stage.

“We’ll see… I don’t want to reveal anything too early,” he teased.

“And surely, I’ve got to work some khaki somewhere into the clothing, maybe a khaki tuxedo… what do you reckon?”

Robert is, of course, no stranger to hosting duties, having co-hosted I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here with Julia Morris and hosting a spin-off reality series of US Dancing With The Stars, Dancing With The Stars: The Next Pro, which was filmed in Queensland recently.

He also addressed rumours about him being considered for the role of secret agent 007 in the next James Bond film.

Big Hollywood names like Idris Elba, Henry Cavill and Aaron Taylor-Johnson have previously been teased as contenders, but Robert clarified whether he is also in the running.

“I don’t know where these rumours have come from, I have no idea,” he said.“But you know what, I will take it - any platform to further the message of conservation… I will take it.

“If I do end up as Bond, we’ve gotta Australia-fy it and the villain has gotta be like habitat destruction or pollution or something like that.”
