‘Hero’ police officer stabbed in neck on call out
A police officer who had only been on the job for 10 weeks has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in the neck on Sunday morning in Brisbane.
Despite being injured, the male officer in his 40s still chased a man and used a taser to stop him, according to the police union.

The man was one of two officers who responded to a reported domestic disturbance before 6am on Sunday at a house on Bogong Street in Hemmant in Brisbane’s eastern suburbs.
It is believed the disturbance was between a father and son, and one of the men pulled out an implement and attacked one of the officers, a constable.
“That male person has unfortunately retrieved something from his person, an implement, and has stabbed an officer in the neck and somewhere else in his upper torso, and his partner has been slashed across the forearm,” Queensland Police Union President Shane Prior said at a press conference on Sunday.
He praised both police for their actions, especially the officer who had been stabbed.

”This officer is a hero,” Prior said.
“Whilst holding onto his neck to stop the bleeding, he managed to chase after the offender, deploy a taser, but only had to stop because he was getting weary from blood loss.
“He’s an absolute hero. His partner is a hero.”
Queensland Ambulance Services rushed the officer to Princess Alexandria Hospital in a “potentially life-threatening condition.”
Prior said he had spoken to the constable, who has had surgery and is now awaiting scans.
“Don't be mistaken, this situation could have very easily resulted in the death of the police officer today,” Prior said.
“We may very well have been talking about a scenario where an officer was killed today just doing their job.”

Prior said the constable had only graduated in July and been on the job for about 10 weeks.
The officer is married and has two young children, Prior said.
He could not confirm the exact weapon used in the attack.
The alleged attacker was arrested.
