Man fined for lying next to fridge in moving car

A Brisbane man has been fined more than $1000 after he was found laying down next to a fridge inside a moving car.

Police spotted the Landcruiser with its rear door open in Moreton Bay last week and found the man next to the appliance which was sticking out of the back of the car.

Officers asked the 46-year-old man to get out of the car before he was handed two fines, worth more than $1600.

“Yes, we can see your feet,” police told the man.

The driver, a 40-year-old woman, was also fined almost $700 and lost three demerit points for running a red light.

The woman was also educated on how to safely secure a load.

The two were fined as a part of a larger police operation targeting dangerous driving across Brisbane throughout September.

Police conducted 3680 random breath tests on September 11 under Operation Moffett and on September 17 during Operation Raze.

Officers detected 23 drink drinks, issued 97 traffic infringement notices, made 53 arrests and laid 68 charges.

“Police acknowledge that the island is a holiday haven for everyone to enjoy, but it is important for visitors to remember of the dangers associated with drink-driving and that road rules also apply on the beach,” Queensland Police inspector Mat Kelly said.

“From the highways to the suburbs to the beaches, these results and activities highlight the value of sustained, high visibility policing in deterring dangerous driving behaviour and protecting all road users.

“Police will continue high-visibility and covert patrols, and targeted activity focused on dangerous driving behaviours under Operation Spring Break.”
