Woman, 52, identified as driver killed in crash involving bus

Police have released more details about the people injured in a crash involving a V/Line bus in Victoria’s Yarra Ranges on Thursday.

The coach, a white Toyota Yaris and a blue Toyota Corolla collided on the Melba Highway near Two Hills Road in Glenburn, north-east of Melbourne, at about 2.40pm.

The coach was making its way from Mansfield to Southern Cross with 18 passengers on board at the time.

The driver of the Toyota Yaris, a 52-year-old woman from Ringwood East, died at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla, a 27-year-old man from Wangaratta, was not injured.

The driver of the bus, a 76-year-old man from Eltham, was also not injured.

A 17-year-old boy from Mansfield was flown to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A 50-year-old man from Windsor was left with serious injuries.

Two other teenagers were taken to hospital and are expected to recover from their injuries.

Police said no one has been arrested or charged over the crash.

Murrindindi Shire Council mayor Damien Gallagher praised residents after they offered passengers a safe place to come to terms with what happened.

“(They) came in, gave them comfort, helped them charge their phone, speak with loved ones, and it really was a sombre mood in the room,” Gallagher told 9News.

Major collision detectives worked on Thursday night to examine what caused the deadly crash but have said it is too early to speculate.

The collision comes just days after a driver was killed in another incident on the same highway and after an RACV report found it to be the sixth most dangerous country road in Victoria.
