‘Pretty disturbing’: Body found in bin outside Brisbane apartment complex

A body found in a bin outside a Brisbane apartment complex has been described as “pretty disturbing” by a witness, as police investigate the death.

Ryan Battista was driving home from the gym on Friday when he came across a busy crime scene on Lambert Street, Kangaroo Point.

“It’s a bit crazy. I was just driving home from the gym and had to turn around because there’s a big crime scene,” he said.

“Bit shocking…figured I’d come down to have a look at what’s going on, so it’s pretty disturbing to find out.”

9News understands that a garbage collector discovered the body while emptying a bin outside the apartment complex shortly before midday.

Police were called to Lambert Street shortly after 11.50am following reports that a person had been found unresponsive.

The person was declared dead at the scene.

Battista said the discovery was unexpected in the area.

“It’s a really nice area… It’s a bit unexpected,” he said.

Police spent Friday speaking with people living in the building and nearby residents as they investigated the circumstances surrounding the death.

As of Saturday morning, police had not confirmed the person’s gender, how they died or released any identifying details.

The investigation remains ongoing.
