'The best father': Tributes for man, 23, who died after alleged street brawl

A 23-year-old man who died on a southern Queensland street after an altercation has been remembered as a loving father.

It's understood a brawl broke out between a group of people at a bus stop near Bell Street in Toowoomba about 9.30pm yesterday.

The fight spilled to nearby a Middle Eastern restaurant, where 23-year-old Jack Norman Roberts collapsed.

Roberts, 23, was described as a father of one who "adored his son".

Emergency services rushed to the scene where they worked on Roberts, but he was unable to be saved.

Mr Roberts' sister Ruth said the father would "literally give you the shirt off his back".

"He was the best father, son, brother, and uncle," she said.

"He adored his son, he made a nice life for himself."

Police set up multiple crime scenes where forensics worked through the night to try to piece together what happened.

There is no ongoing threat to public safety.
