Audit reveals nine schools in southeast Queensland contain 'unstable' asbestos
A Government audit has revealed nine schools in southeast Queensland currently contain unstable or severely damaged asbestos, raising concerns about how its removal will affect students.
Among those listed include Stafford Heights State School, currently attended by about 200 students.
Documents revealed asbestos in the ceiling of the administration building ranking as the highest priority for repair.

- Springwood Road State School
- Milperra State High School
- Kenmore South State School
- Narbethong State Special School
- Patricks Road State School
- Pine Rivers State High School
- Harristown State High School
Today, Queensland's Education Minister eased concerns around the future clean-up affecting the state's students, saying each removal will be done before Term Three 2021 and undertaken during school holidays.
"If it isn't disturbed, it's not a danger, but obviously we do find where we need to remove asbestos, and we have a multimillion-dollar program where we do that on a priority basis," Minister Grace Grace said today.
Asbestos was removed from 112 Queensland schools in the last financial year to February 2021, costing $6,500,000, with forecasts expecting to hit $11,000,000 by the end of this financial year.
