A 21-year-old man has died after he was hit by a garbage truck outside a restaurant in Sydney’s west this morning.
Emergency services were called to the restaurant on Luxford Road, Mount Druitt, about 2.20am after reports a pedestrian had been hit by the truck.
Police officers and paramedics attempted to treat the man; however, he died at the scene. He is yet to be identified.
The driver, a 31-year-old man, was uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Initial police enquiries revealed the pedestrian had attended the rear of Mount Druitt Police Station twice during the evening and interacted with officers.
A crime scene has been established, and police have launched a critical incident investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
The investigation will be independently reviewed by the Professional Standards Command, with oversight from the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
