Woman punched, another kicked in Sydney

Two men have been charged over the alleged assault of two women in separate incidents in Sydney in the early hours of the weekend.

Police say a 26-year-old woman had been arguing with a friend in Enmore about 4am on Saturday when a 20-year-old man approached and allegedly punched the woman, threw her to the ground and kicked her.

She suffered grazes but was not taken to hospital.

The man was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault, and granted conditional bail to appear before Newtown Local Court on July 28.

In a separate incident, a woman was allegedly punched in the face when she intervened in an argument at Martin Place about 3.15am on Saturday.

Police say an argument broke out involving several people near a hotel and that a 24-year-old woman was knocked to the ground by a 20-year-old man.

The woman was taken to St Vincent's Hospital for treatment and the man has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on August 4.
