A group of teenagers have been ambushed after leaving a restaurant in the Sydney suburb of Rhodes, leading to one teen being stabbed in the stomach.

Police say six teenagers left a restaurant on Rider Boulevard around 10:30pm last night and were approached by two groups of teens armed with hammers and knives, who appear to have been waiting for them.

In the ensuing brawl an 18-year-old man was stabbed in the stomach.

Police said he was bleeding heavily and having difficulty breathing when paramedics arrived.

He was taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition and has undergone surgery for a ruptured spleen.

Another 18-year-old man suffered an injury to his neck, swelling and abrasions and was taken to Concord Hospital in a stable condition while a 16-year-old girl was treated at the scene for abrasions to her hand.

Police say the motivation for the attack is not yet known and no property was stolen.

No arrests have been made.

Detectives are analysing CCTV footage of the brawl in a bid to identify the attackers.
