Sydney woman assaulted after lift accepted

Police are looking for a man who allegedly robbed and assaulted a woman after he offered her a lift in Sydney's inner west.

Police say the man stole cash from the 43-year-old woman's handbag shortly after she hopped into the car in Newtown on Tuesday afternoon.

It's alleged the man then stopped the car and propositioned her before indecently assaulting her.

He's described as being of Caucasian appearance with a tanned complexion, about 30 years old with brown eyes and dark curly hair.

The car he was driving is described as a light-coloured sedan with a number plate similar to BFW048.
