Rebels bikie charged over alleged assault

A Rebels bikie who allegedly detained a man and extorted tens of thousands of dollars from him has been charged.

The man, aged in his 20s, was allegedly grabbed by a group of bikies in the car park of a fast food restaurant at Erina, on the NSW Cental Coast, in late April.

"He was forced to transfer a large sum of money to a bank account," police said.

A police spokeswoman wouldn't confirm the amount but told AAP it was "tens-of-thousands of dollars."

After the bikies fleeced the man's cash they allegedly bashed him and fled.

A 27-year-old Rebels member was on Wednesday arrested over the allegations.

He was charged with detain with intent to obtain advantage in company and assaulting a person as part of a criminal group.

He is due before Liverpool Local Court on January 8.
