Prisoner's phone released from backside

A convicted triple murderer in a NSW maximum security jail has finally let go of a mobile phone that was hidden up his backside for nearly two weeks.

Goulburn Correction Centre prisoner Konstantinos Georgiou went on a hunger strike after the contraband item was first detected on February 11 and he was placed in an observation cell.

A Corrective Services spokeswoman says he passed the phone 12 days later and has been moved to a segregated cell.

"Georgiou will no doubt sleep a little more comfortably ... I'm delighted that he no longer has access to a mobile phone and will remain in isolation in SuperMax," Corrective Services Minster David Elliot told The Daily Telegraph.

In December 2003, Georgiou was sentenced to at least 28 years for murdering a Bandido club president.
