NSW man charged with impersonating police

A man accused of impersonating a police officer and confiscating drivers' licences from three people across Sydney has been charged.

In a spate of incidents this month, police say the 45-year-old man used flashing blue lights at night to alert three drivers to pull over, using a fake police badge, radio and what appeared to be a breath tester.

A 53-year-old woman was pulled over about 9.30pm on January 20 at Mount Annan and the alleged fake cop asked the woman to produce her licence.

He then spoke into a radio before allegedly telling her the licence had been suspended and taking it with him.

It followed similar incidents at Cecil Hill and Bringelly.

The 45-year-old was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in Wyong and charged with three counts of impersonating a police officer, larceny, dishonestly obtaining property and driving while disqualified.

He was due to face Wyong Local Court on Thursday.
