NSW couple wake to car smashing into home

A NSW couple has escaped injury after an alleged drunk-driver crashed into their home, the car stopping just short of the bed where they were sleeping.

The car left the roadway in Newcastle about 2.50am on Monday, crashing through a fence and causing significant damage to the unit.

It is alleged the 20-year-old driver was more than three times the legal limit when breath tested by police.
