Auburn councillor Salim Mehajer fined $200 over Ferrari fail

Troubled Sydney councillor Salim Mehajer has been fined $200 after being caught driving a Ferrari without his licence on him.

But the flashy deputy mayor of Auburn has escaped conviction on charges of failing to register the luxury car before getting behind the wheel.

The property developer's traffic-stopping August nuptials propelled him to the headlines with images of his decadent wedding motorcade of motorbikes and luxury cars worth $50 million.

In October, Mehajer was issued two traffic penalty notices for driving an unregistered Ferrari without a licence in Punchbowl late on a Saturday night.

Police said Mehajer was stopped again 25 minutes later after ignoring their instructions not to drive and was ordered to front Bankstown Local Court.

At the time, the 29-year-old argued the vehicle did not show up on the NSW police database because it was registered online, and that his driver's licence was in the car.

He told AAP last year: "I want nothing but an apology."

However, he has since pleaded guilty to all three offences.

On Thursday, Bankstown Magistrate Michael Connell fined him $200 for the licence offence but he will not have a conviction recorded against him.
