Man in hospital after crash

A man has been taken to hospital after smashing a van into two power poles in Sydney's inner west.

Two shops on King Street in Newtown were damaged when the man crashed about 5am on Friday and one northbound lane of the main road has been closed, with further impediments expected as the damaged power poles are replaced.

The man has been taken to hospital for scans and police are advising drivers to avoid the area.
