Suspected intruder mauled to death at iconic Sydney property, eight German shepherds seized

A man has died in a suspected dog attack in a paddock near an iconic home in Sydney’s south-west.

Police were called to the Mount Universe property in Eschol Park on Wednesday after home owners discovered the man with significant injuries.

Emergency services arrived to find the body of a 23-year-old man, who had reportedly been severely mauled by multiple guard dogs at the property.

It is possible the man may have been there for a day before his body was discovered.

Council rangers spent Friday morning tranquillising eight Belgian shepherds guarding the rural residence before transporting them off the premises.

It’s understood the dogs’ owner was bitten whilst attempting to helping the rangers.

NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon described the incident as a “terrible set of circumstances”, saying it did not appear the victim lived at the address.

Detectives seized a vehicle as well as gloves and a balaclava linked to the victim

“We don’t know the circumstances by which that male was on the premises,” Lanyon said.

“He certainly doesn’t appear to be a resident of that location.”

Lanyon said the killed man may have been an intruder targeting the unattended residence.

The home owners were assisting police and Campbelltown City Council with investigations.

“NSW Police are leading the investigation into a suspected dog attack at a property in Eschol Park,” a council spokesperson told nine.com.au.

“Council is supporting police inquiries and will continue to assist as required, in accordance with its legislative responsibilities, including determining the registration and ownership status of the dogs.”

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Mount Universe is a landmark home built in the 1970s and known for its unique architecture.

The building’s unique design, inspired by Saturn’s rings, is said to have a bunker and was originally built by its owner Stefan Dzwonnik, with hopes for it to become a “mecca for a worldwide movement directed toward a better life on Earth”.
