Gough's memorial broadcast to Cabramatta

Gough Whitlam's memorial service will be broadcast live to a public plaza in his former Sydney constituency.

The former prime minister was member for the southwest seat of Werriwa for 25 years.

Fairfield Mayor Frank Carbone says given Whitlam's close ties to Cabramatta during that time, it was fitting an additional live stream be aired at Freedom Plaza on November 5.

The memorial service will be held at Sydney Town Hall on Wednesday week from 11am, with a live broadcast also screening at Melbourne's Federation Square.

Mr Carbone says Whitlam left a great legacy in Fairfield City and was responsible for much of what makes the area what it is today.
