Former Sydney childcare worker charged with 200 child abuse offences

Notorious childcare paedophile Ashley Paul Griffith has been charged with more than 200 child abuse offences following a years-long investigation into allegations involving children in Sydney.

The 48-year-old was transferred to NSW from Queensland custody this week and has now been charged with 200 offences allegedly involving children in Sydney’s inner west.

During almost four years of investigation, detectives from Strike Force Boorong identified 23 children – aged between one and five – who were allegedly sexually abused by Griffith between July 2014 and December 2017.

Early on Friday, Griffith was arrested at Silverwater Correctional Facility in Sydney.

He’s been charged with 202 offences, including 68 counts of sexual intercourse with child under 10; 69 counts of aggravated indecent assault; 23 counts of produce child abuse material.

Griffith was remanded in custody and will appear in court later today.

NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Brett Greentree, said the allegations were deeply disturbing.

“The charges laid today follow years of painstaking investigative work by child abuse squad detectives and partner agencies, who have remained unwavering in their commitment to identify victims and pursue justice on their behalf,” he said.

“This investigation involved the forensic examination of thousands of digital files, extensive victim identification inquiries and collaboration with law enforcement partners across Australia.”
